Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a form of bodywork where the practitioner works on the meridians and pressure points muscles and joints throughout the body, balancing the energy channels, aiding physical, mental, emotional and spiritual healing and balance.

The word shiatsu translates to finger pressure. Techniques used may include gentle holding, pressing with palms, thumbs, fingers, elbows, knees and feet on the meridians and, when appropriate, more dynamic rotations and stretches.

The session is conducted with the client fully clothed, and the receiver will feel a sense of balance and relaxation. As the quality of Ki changes, the symptoms associated with a lack of flow will gradually improve. Often it facilitates the release of repressed emotions and can have a profound impact on the quality of life, creating a space to connect with the body and the emotions, returning the client to a greater place of balance.

Common conditions which can be helped by Shiatsu include:

  • back pain
  • headaches, migraines
  • whiplash injuries and neck stiffness
  • joint pain and reduced mobility
  • menstrual problems
  • digestive problems
  • asthmatic symptoms
  • sports injuries
  • depression
  • stress
